Keeping Up To Date & Understanding Your

Pesticide knowledge

Pistachios are susceptible to infection/infestation by a number of diseases, insects, mites, and weeds. Cultural controls may not be effective in controlling these pests and it is sometimes necessary to resort to chemical controls such as pesticides.

Knowing More

pesticide researh

Legal use of a pesticide on a particular crop requires first that the pesticide is registered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for that crop. This involves an evaluation of potential impacts of the application on workers, bystanders, consumers, and other organisms and a food tolerance is set, based on the application parameters. The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) also evaluates the application parameters, based on California conditions and concerns.
Other use restrictions may be applied. To be legally used in California, the pesticide must be registered by both EPA and CDPR and pistachios must be specifically mentioned on the label.

Important

To ensure that a particular pesticide is appropriate for your specific conditions, ALWAYS consult with your Pest Control Advisor or county Farm Advisor and read the label before applying. Click below to find out your Pest Control Advisor.

Pesticide Registration

Pesticides registrations change frequently and the information in the tables below should not be considered definitive. The same active ingredient may also be registered under several trade names and the listing of a single trade name is not an endorsement of that product over other registered products. The pesticides are divided into four categories: fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and miticides based on the target pest. If you have suggestions on how these tables may be improved or if you detect errors, please contact Bob Klein at the California Pistachio Research Board.
